Ingredients:

Cookies

  • ¾ cup butter, softened, separated
  • 2 tablespoons Tumblewood Teas Lavender Earl Grey tea leaves
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup powdered sugar

Tea glaze

  • 1 tablespoon strong brewed Lavender Earl Grey tea
  • ½ cup powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Microwave 1/4 cup of the butter in 20 second intervals at medium power until butter is melted. Stir in tea leaves and steep in butter for 4 minutes. Strain butter through a fine-mesh sieve; pressing all butter out of tea leaves with the back of a spoon. Discard tea leaves.
  2. In a large mixing bowl beat strained butter, the remaining 1/2 cup butter, and 1/2 cup powdered sugar with an electric mixer on medium to high speed until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla. Stir in flour and cornstarch until combined.
  3. Shape dough into a 10-inch roll. Wrap roll tightly in plastic wrap or waxed paper. Chill about 2 hours or until dough is firm enough to slice.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F. Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into 1/4-inch slices. Place slices 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until edges are light brown. Transfer cookies to a cooling rack.
  5. Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon brewed tea. Using a pastry brush, lightly coat cookies with glaze and top with loose lavender if desired. Let stand on a wire rack until glaze is set.
